RAPID Community CCTV Application for funding successful
The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., today announced the approval for the Kilkenny RAPID Community-based CCTV Scheme in Garringreen.
The Community Based Scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to qualifying local organisations towards meeting the capital costs associated with the establishment of local community CCTV systems. These grants are provided by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and where successful applications are from RAPID areas, matching funding is provided by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
Minister Lenihan said: "In supporting the work of An Garda Síochána, CCTV schemes can play an important role in fighting and deterring crime and anti-social behaviour, and in doing so afford a greater peace of mind to communities. Crime affects the whole of society and it cannot be tackled effectively without the support and engagement of local communities.
These grants are provided by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and where successful applications are from RAPID areas, matching funding is provided by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. Pobal administers the Scheme on behalf of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The substantive grants will enable these Community groups to install and operate their own systems under the guidance of the Local Authorities and An Garda Síochána. Pobal will continue to monitor progress on behalf of the Department.
