You and your committee are invited to attend a community information night on Tuesday the 15th April 2003 at 7.45 in the Newpark Hotel. The object of the seminar is to provide a platform for community groups and new resident associations meet existing community leaders, activists and development workers who are working within the city. RAPID Web-site up and running

The 1st phase of the RAPID community web-site has been completed, and this can be found on the County Council website under RAPID .. www.kilkennycoco.ie The web site will act as an information source and will be updated on an on-going basis. The site is the first step towards an independant community web-site Should you have any comments or suggestions please contact Ronan in the County Hall

Community Training Programme

Their has been alot of interest in the Community Training Programme for Community Representatives. The dates for the programme are presently being finalised.The programme will cover various topics including 1) effective meetings, 2) Action Planning, and 3) Intro to Community Development. Minister invites Call for Applications

The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism has announced that applications are now being invited from sports organisations, clubs and community groups, etc for proposals for the development of sport and recreational sport facilities under the National Lottery funded Sports Capital Programme for 2003. Priorty will be give to applications from RAPID 1 and RAPID 2 areas

Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund 2003

Do you think your organisation could contribute to sustainable development in your community?
If so, you may be entitled to co-funding from the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund 2003 which encourages partnership arrangements between local community groups/environmental NGOs and your local authority. Selected projects are part funded by your local authority and the Department of the Environment and Local Government. Preference is given to those projects where a significant amount of the cost of the project is funded by the proposer or from other sources.
Theme of Fund for 2003 - Local Agenda 21. It is desirable that eligible projects focus on aspects of waste management to complement the Department's forthcoming National Environmental awareness Campaign. As a follow-up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002, emphasis for 2003 will be on projects which support Local Agenda 21, a process which facilitates sustainable development at community level. COG Welcomes New Community Representatives on Board


COG ( Community Organisation Group ) have agreed to welcome new community representatives from existing RAPID areas onto the COG organisation. Following a recent COG meeting it was agreed that COG would work towards expanding it's representation.Cog was set up just over eight years ago with the aim of providing a voice for communities in the city and it's surrounds. COG has played a key role in local decision making providing a forum for local issues to be raised. COG since its inception philosophy has been based on participation of those who experience disadvantage. the organisation presently meets once a month.

COG will play a key role in the development of the RAPID process and through it's existing structures will provide a forum for the prioritisation of future developments. Mags Leahy
